About Us

This whole idea was born over fifteen years ago (not Two Chubby Potters necessarily, but digital media) when I used to help Roy fire his Raku kilns. Roy has been a master potter at least as long as I've known him, (I married his wonderful daughter almost 20 years ago). When we lived in Sacramento years back we would go to his shows and help with firing, etc. There have been articles in the paper about Roy and not just for pottery; he's coached baseball at nearly every level, and local high school golf for a few years and he was quite the baseball player himself. He's sold tons of work around the Sacramento area both in galleries and local shops. To his biggest fans he's known simply as Grandad, others it's Coach Roy, Coach, KOC, Roy, and I'm sure there are a few I've missed, but his talent abounds. I made it my mission to get his pottery work out to a broader audience on the web.

Unfortunately, our family relocated across the country to Tennessee a short time later and I was unable to see this dream become reality. We spent  10 years traipsing around the country before eventually landing back home to be close to parents. Roy offered me a chance to learn clay and I fell in love. I've always worked with my hands, I've been in concrete in some form or fashion for 25 years so clay just felt good, smelled good, and I learned that with enough patience, it will do what you want and you can make some really cool pieces of functional art. He taught me an advanced class every week, sometimes twice a week and we haven't looked back. He's teaching me the economics of ceramics and the freedom of ART. Concrete had me a pretty square level kind of guy and art is obviously a world apart from that. I've still got that concrete job but this has given me a creative freedom and release from the stress that is just amazing. So, one night at dinner I looked at him and said "we look like two chubby potters". Grandma Suz, Roy's beloved, decided that sounded like a catchy name and the company was born.

We will always be real, transparent, and honest with you. If we can do something better, please let us know. We all get better through failure. Hope you enjoy what we have to offer. Two Chubby Potters, OUT!
